# Ti Nspire Student Software Licen ((EXCLUSIVE))

Last Friday, March 20, the USC Science and Mathematics Teacher Initiative Noyce Scholars were joined by Matt Owens and Jamila Gadsden at the College of Education training session on the TI-Nspire -- product line in a series of graphing calculators developed by Texas Instruments that is capable of plotting graphs, solving simultaneous equations, and performing other tasks with variables. This The likely target of the TI-Nspire is secondary schools that make use of the TI-84 Plus currently or have textbooks that cover the TI-83 (Plus) and TI-84 Plus lines, and to allow them to transition to the TI-Nspire line more easily. It was a great training and many of our scholars were given a free license to Nspire software or TI-84 software!

## Ti Nspire Student Software Licen

To make it possible to work with multiple representations we needed a versatile and user friendly dynamical mathematical software tool. In our school, we have adopted the computer program TI-NspireTM CAS from Texas Instruments, which is an integrated computer package specifically designed to facilitate the use of multiple representations in mathematics. The program consists of a number of dynamically interactive applications among other subjects offering support for investigations in geometry, statistics, tables, graphing as well as symbolic calculations (hence the CAS affixed to the name TI-NspireTM). The class has mathematics as an integrated subject and consisted of three kinds of students; some having only mathematics for one year (C-level), some having mathematics for two years (B-level) and some having mathematics for three years (A-level). As prerequisite for the project all students were familiar with elementary geometry and in particular similarities, as well as a basic understating of linear relationships between numerical variables. Roughly speaking this comprises the beginning of the precalculus level.

DPGraph is a 3D graphing package that will be useful for visualizing the graphs of multi-variable functions. The software is not free, but Richland has a site license that allows students to download and use it without additional charge. You may download it from -users.html (be sure to find the entry for Richland Community College) 350c69d7ab
